19. guardian kings of heaven

  The guardian kings of heaven include Bonten, Taishakuten, Shitenno, Kishibojin and others. For instance, Kishibojin previously abducted and ate other children. However, Kishibojin changed her mind and took refuge in the Lotus Sutra after the Buddha had admonished her. In the Lotus Sutra, the guardian kings of heaven have pledged to protect practitioners eagerly chanting the Odaimoku.

  諸天善神には梵天、帝釈天、四天王、鬼子母神などが含まれます。例えば、かつて鬼子母神は他人の子供をさらい食していました。ところが、仏さまのお折伏によって鬼子母神は気持ちを入れ替え、法華経に帰依する事になりました。法華経の中で、諸天善神は真剣に御題目口唱に励む行者を守護する事を誓願しています。

18. Buddha’s nature

  In fact, all of us have Buddha’s nature. Some people misunderstand that they can awaken their Buddha’s nature by meditating. But common people in this Mappo period don’t have any capabilities for meditating. Chanting the Odaimoku can awake our own Buddha’s nature, resulting in attaining Buddhahood.

　事実、私達の心の中には仏性が宿っています。瞑想修行によって仏性を目覚めさせる事が出来るという誤った考えを持っている人もいます。しかしながら、末法時代の私達は瞑想を行じるだけの機根を持ち合わせていません。この末法時代においては、御題目をお唱えし、私達の心の中にある仏性を目覚めさせる事によってのみ成仏が適うのです。

17. Bodhisattva practicing

  In addition to chanting the Odaimoku, we’re stressing “the Bodhisattva practicing” as well. A lot of people are suffering from business, human relations, illnesses, natural disasters and others in this modern society. The Bodhisattva practicing is recommending chanting the Odaimoku to such people. We can also accumulate the merits while helping others through the Bodhisattva practicing.

  御題目口唱に加え、私達は「菩薩行」を重視しています。この現代社会では、多くの人が仕事、人間関係、病気、自然災害などに悩み苦しんでいます。菩薩行とは、そうした人々に御題目口唱をお勧めする修行です。菩薩行を通じて他の人を救う事で、私達もまた、その功徳をいただく事が出来るのです。

16. Buddha’s teachings in the past, present and future lives

  The Buddha’s teachings aren’t aiming at the present life only. We’re daily chanting the Odaimoku to eliminate our sins accumulated in the past life and repeatedly transmigrate in the world of Bodhisattvas for chanting and the Bodhisattva practicing.  

  仏さまのみ教えは現世一端のものではありません。日々私達が御題目をお唱えさせていただくのは、過去世の罪障を消滅させ、来世も菩薩界に生まれ変わり御題目口唱・菩薩行に励ませていただく為です。

15. flowers and candle light

  Besides food and drinks, flowers as well as candle light are also offered to the Gohozen. Flowers and candle light mean the Buddha’s life and his wisdom respectively. Thus, we need always offer fresh flowers to the Gohozen.

　食べ物と飲み物の他に、お花とお灯を御宝前にお供えいたします。お花とお灯は、それぞれ仏さまの命と仏さまのお智恵を意味します。ですから、御宝前にお供えするお花は常に新鮮なものでなくてはなりません。

14. repentance

  We’ve already accumulated a lot of sins due to disparaging the Dharma in our past lives. So, we never fail to repent our sins in the past lives and pledge to uphold the Odaimoku until attaining Buddhahood in front of the Gohozen before chanting the Odaimoku. Our sins can be eliminated by repenting and chanting.

　過去世から私達は謗法の罪を積み重ねてきている訳ですから、御題目をお唱えする前に必ず御宝前に向かって過去世の罪障をお懺悔し、仏身に至るまで御題目をお持ちする事をお誓いします。過去世の罪障をお懺悔し、御題目口唱に励めば、私達の罪障は消滅していきます。

13. consolation

   In general, most of the people visit temples to console their ancestors only a few times a year. In this Josenji temple, we’re daily chanting the Odaimoku for comforting the deceased as well as our ancestors, resulting in receiving the merits for better future lives.

  世間一般では、先祖回向の為にお寺に足を運ぶのは年に数回という方がほとんどでしょう。ここ乗泉寺では、毎日御題目をお唱えし、先祖や故人のご回向を行っています。同時に、ご回向の功徳によって私達自身の人生もまた豊かになっていくのです。

12. law of causes and results

  The Buddhism says that all of us are affecting each other. Whether we can live happily depends on our own behaviors. In other words, we can be happy by making others happy, which is called “the meritorious causes and results”. On the other hand, we will accumulate sins causing our sufferings in the future by distressing others.

  仏教には、私達は皆互いに影響を与え合っていると説かれています。幸せな人生を歩めるか否かは、私達自身の言動にかかっています。「善因善果」と言って、他の人を幸せにすれば、自分自身も幸せな人生を歩む事が出来ます。反対に人を苦しめれば、自身の苦しみの元となる罪障を積む事になってしまいます。

11. five kinds of greed

   We have greed for eating, sleeping, money, sex and honors, which is required to some extent. Not being able to go beyond the limit, we can’t be too careful about the excess greed. Such greed causing sufferings and troubles can be minimized by chanting the Odaimoku.

　私達には、食欲、睡眠欲、金銭欲、色欲、名誉欲の五つの欲があり、ある程度私達が生活を営む上で必要となるものではありますが、こうした欲には限度がありませんから、過剰に欲する事のない様、注意が必要です。御題目をお唱えさせていただけば、苦しみの根源である五欲を抑える事が出来るのです。

10. merits of chanting the Odaimoku

  All of us can’t escape from the transmigration among the six worlds consisting of the hell, hungry spirits, animals, asuras, human beings and heavenly beings. In other words, we never fail to fall down these agonizing worlds after our death. In this Josenji temple, we’re always chanting the Odaimoku to accumulate merits making us get out of the agonizing transmigration among the six worlds.

   私達の自力では六道（1. 地獄, 2. 餓鬼, 3. 畜生, 4. 修羅, 5. 人間,         6. 天上,）輪廻から逃れる事は出来ません。すなわち、死後、私達は必ずこれらの苦しみの世界をさまよい続ける事になります。乗泉寺では、功徳を積ませていただく為、私達は日々御題目口唱に励んで     おり、その口唱の功徳によって六道輪廻の苦しみから逃れさせていただけるのです。

9. ten worlds

  The Buddhism says that there are ten worlds of 1. the hell, 2. hungry spirits, 3. animals, 4. asuras, 5. human beings, 6. heavenly beings,    7. disciples, 8. self-enlightened Buddhas, 9. Bodhisattvas, and        10.Buddhas. And it also elucidates that we repeatedly transmigrate among the six agonizing worlds consisting of the hell, hungry spirits, animals, asuras, human beings and heavenly beings after our death.

　十界（1. 地獄, 2. 餓鬼, 3. 畜生, 4. 修羅, 5. 人間, 6. 天上, 7. 声聞,    8. 縁覚, 9. 菩薩, 10. 仏）と呼ばれる世界が存在し、私達は死後、十界の中にある苦しみに満ちた六道（1. 地獄, 2. 餓鬼,  3. 畜生, 4. 修羅,   5. 人間, 6. 天上）の世界をさまよい続けると仏教には説かれています。

8. Nissen Shonin

Tokugawa Shogunate had governed both Japan and its religious sects during Edo period. The Buddhism at that time was available only for memorial services and funerals. Nissen Shonin became interested in the Buddhism after his mother’s death in late Edo period and confirmed that the Lotus Sutra was true teachings of the Buddha. Then, he established Butsuryu Ko to restore Nichiren Shonin’s true teachings at the age of 41.

江戸時代、日本国と宗教を統括していたのは徳川幕府でした。当時の仏教の役割といえば法要と葬儀のみでした。幕末の時代、日扇聖人は、母親の死後、仏教に興味を持たれ、法華経こそが仏さまの真実のみ教えである事を確信されたのです。その後、御年41歳の時、日蓮聖人の正しいみ教えを再興すべく佛立講を開講されました。

7. Nichiryu Shonin

  More than one hundred years had passed since Nichiren Shonin preached importance of the Odaimoku. Unfortunately, his true teachings were wrongly construed at that time. Nichiryu Shonin having been born in 1385 (Muromachi period) revived Nichiren Shonin’s true teachings and propagated the Odaimoku for saving lots of people suffering from epidemics, disasters and others. 

　日蓮聖人が御題目の重要性を説かれてから100年以上の歳月が過ぎると、残念ながら、日蓮聖人の真実のみ教えは誤って解釈される様になりました。1385年（室町時代）にお生まれになられた日隆聖人は、日蓮聖人の正しいみ教えを再興され、御題目の御弘通に励まれ、疫病や災害などに苦しむ多くの人々を救われたのです。

6. Nichiren Shonin

Nichiren Shonin having been born in 1222 concluded that the enlightenment could be achieved in this Mappo period only by chanting the Odaimoku elucidated in the primordial eight chapters of the Lotus Sutra. Nichiren Shonin lived his entire life for spreading the Odaimoku across the nation.

1222年にお生まれになられた日蓮聖人は、この末法の時代においては、法華経本門八品に説かれる上行所伝の御題目口唱のみが唯一の成仏の法である事を突き止められ、御題目のご信心の御弘通一筋の生涯を遂げられました。

5. Gohonzon

  Each religious sect has its own object of worship.  We’ve designated the Odaimoku as our object of worship, because Nichiren Shonin having spread the Odaimoku in Japan approximately 800 years ago says that an object of worship should be the Odaimoku (Namumyohorengekyo) in this Mappo period.

　どの宗旨にも独自の崇拝の対象があります。当宗では御題目を崇拝の対象と定めております。その理由は、約800年前（鎌倉時代）に御題目を日本国内に弘められた日蓮聖人が「この末法時代においては、御題目（南無妙法蓮華経）を崇拝の対象とすべきである」と仰せられているからです。
